Program Description:

The site of Vasagård is located on the southern side of the island of Bornholm, Denmark. The site is separated only by the 100m Læså valley of two nearly identical Neolithic sites. On Vasagård there is a tomb system, where a dolmen and a passage grave can be found close to the settlement. The grave system and causewayed enclosures at Vasagård are dated from c. 3500 BC., and constitute the most north-eastern occurrence of this type in Europe. The discovery of Vasagård site (causewayed enclosure), though, stirred a renewed interest both in settlement sites and how to interpret them, as well as in investigations of the settlement pattern of which they are part. In recent years houses sites and activity areas have also come to light, and this has put fresh heart into the efforts to solve the difficult job of giving Stone Age farmers a roof in their heads. All the same, which may help to solve the different problems posed by Neolithic settlement. New excavations will help to increase and to improve the amount of information about the site and the history of the Baltic region.
